Lahore: The suspense over Pakistan's participation in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 continues to deepen. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is still undecided on whether its team will play in the tournament or skip the high-voltage match against India. Questions have been raised about the PCB's strategy ever since Bangladesh withdrew from the tournament.

Why the controversy of the Pakistan jersey?

Meanwhile, a significant development occurred on Saturday when the PCB abruptly postponed the launch of Pakistan's T20 World Cup jersey. The jersey launch was scheduled to take place after the toss of the second T20 match against Australia, but it was canceled at the last minute.

According to a report by ASports.tv, the PCB cited unavoidable circumstances for postponing the jersey launch. However, inside sources suggest that this decision is directly linked to the lack of formal approval from the Pakistani government. The PCB is currently awaiting the government's stance, and it is believed that the board does not want to give any public indication until a final decision is made.

Willl everything be clear by Monday?

According to officials, the situation regarding Pakistan's participation in the T20 World Cup could become clear by Monday. This is the day when the PCB is expected to receive final instructions from the government. Interestingly, despite the uncertainty, the PCB has completed the team's travel arrangements.

An official said, "The Pakistan Cricket Board has already made arrangements for the World Cup squad to depart for Colombo on the morning of February 2nd. This statement clearly indicates that at the administrative level, the Pakistan Cricket Board is still keeping the option of playing in the tournament open."

The official further added, "It should be noted that all of Pakistan's T20 World Cup matches are to be held in Sri Lanka, even the final, if the team qualifies. So, what would be the basis for boycotting the tournament or the match against India?"

This statement clearly highlights the confusion prevailing within the PCB. Since no matches are scheduled to be played in India, the scope for objections regarding security or hosting arrangements appears extremely limited. If Pakistan withdraws from the T20 World Cup or refuses to play against India, it will impact the tournament's commercial value, broadcasters, and the ICC's plans. This is why the ICC is also closely monitoring the situation.

The postponement of the jersey launch indicates that the PCB is still not in a position to make a final decision. However, the team's travel preparations also suggest that the possibility of Pakistan participating has not yet been ruled out. All eyes are now on Monday's decision, which will determine whether Pakistan will play in the 2026 T20 World Cup or not.
