IND vs AFG: KL Rahul Replaces Rishabh Pant As Vice Captain After BCCI Announces Test, ODI Squad (x)
New Delhi: The BCCI on Tuesday announced the Team India’s squad for a one-off Test and three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. KL Rahul has replaced Rishabh Pant as the vice-captain of the Indian Test team, which will be led by Shubman Gill.
Senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah have been rested from the Test in Mullanpur starting June 6.
While announcing the squad during the press conference, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar said that, “Ravindra Jadeja is an integral part of the team. He's rested for the Test match and we are trying to give opportunities to other players. It's for this Test that we have not picked him.”
"We have been told that at this point, T20 cricket is what he is ready, so there was no discussion regarding Mohammed Shami. There was chat around Auqib Nabi. Rishabh remains a part of Test squad and an incredible player. He's not part of ODI squad but right now he's a key part of Test team," said Agarkar during the press conference.
Agarkar during the press conference said that Shreyas Iyer is back in the ODI and will resume his duties as Shubman Gill's deputy. Veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been included for the ODIs, but Rohit and Hardik Pandya's selection will be subject to BCCI's fitness protocols.
