Despite the defeat in the third match, the Indian team was successful in winning the series. Team India had taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series by winning both the initial matches.
In the first ODI played in Thiruvananthapuram, India defeated West Indies by 8 wickets. After this, the Indian team performed brilliantly and won the second match in Guwahati also. Thus, despite the defeat in the third match, the series remained in India's name.
After winning the series, Indian captain Shubman Gill picked up the trophy and then handed over the trophy to the young players of the team in a special manner. Gill handed over the trophy to Naman Dheer, Anshul Kamboj and Akash Nabi.
This style of Shubman Gill reminds of the tradition of Indian cricket, in which the captain, after winning a series or tournament, instead of keeping the trophy with himself, shares the victory celebration with the young players.
Shubman Gill handing over the trophy to the young players reminds of the era of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. These captains have also been seen on many occasions handing over trophies to young players after victory.
Gill's move also sent a message that victory is not just for the captain but for the entire team. By handing over the trophy to the young players, he made all the team members a part of the celebration.
Naman Dheer, Anshul Kamboj and Akash Nabi made their ODI debut in the ODI series against West Indies. Naman Dhir scored a total of 30 runs in three matches of the series and also took one wicket.
Anshul Kamboj got a chance to make his ODI debut in Mullanpur. He scored 17 runs, although he did not get any wickets. Whereas Akash Nabi made his ODI debut in Guwahati and spent 84 runs without taking any wicket.
Despite the defeat in the third match, India maintained its dominance against West Indies by winning the series 2-1. Shubman Gill handing over the trophy to the young players became a special moment of this victory.
