IPL 2024: Hardik Pandya has been appointed as the new skipper of Mumbai Indians (MI) for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday. The star allrounder will take over the reins from Rohit Sharma under whose captaincy MI won the IPL title for a record five times. Rohit was appointed as the skipper in mid-way through the 2013 season.

Hardik made his IPL debut in 2013 for Mumbai Indians, where he played 92 matches for the franchises. For 2023 and 2023 Gujarat Titans secured the services of the allrounder for a whopping sum of Rs 15 crore. Under his captaincy, Gujarat clinched the title in debut year 2022 and managed to reach finals in 2023.

Mahela thanked Rohit Sharma for his leadership under which Mumbai Indians became one the successful franchise of the torunamnet. Former Sri Lankan skipper added, "We express our gratitude to Rohit Sharma for his exceptional leadership; his tenure as the captain of the Mumbai Indians since 2013 has been nothing short of extraordinary. His leadership has not only brought unparalleled success to the team but has also solidified his place as one of the finest captains in the history of the IPL.
Notably, Hardik was traded from Gujrat Titans to Mumbai Indians in November.
