New Delhi: Whenever IPL 2026 will be discussed, the name 'Vaibhav Suryavanshi' will be in everyone's mind for sure. He enjoyed a remarkable season for Rajasthan Royals and emerged as one of the tournament’s biggest stories, as a just 15 years old boy.
His performances not only make records but also sparked several kind of conversations about the future of Indian cricket. Calls for his inclusion in the national team have grown louder with every passing week.
Vaibhav finished the season with 776 runs in 16 matches, earning the Orange Cap. He also became the youngest player ever to top the IPL run-scoring charts. His fearless approach against some of the league’s most experienced bowlers drew praise from fans, experts and selectors alike.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said selectors closely monitored players throughout the IPL and noted that Vaibhav had proved himself with exceptional performances. He had acknowledged the teenager’s outstanding campaign.
Saikia added that the selection committee would take future tours into account before making decisions, a statement many have interpreted as a positive sign for the youngster’s chances.
Speaking about Vaibhav, Saikia described him as Indian cricket’s new wonderkid. He expressed confidence that the young batter would make a name for himself on the global stage in the years ahead.
According to him, selectors regularly assess performances during the IPL, and Vaibhav’s season has been impossible to ignore.
Saikia also suggested that a senior India cap may not be far away for the Rajasthan Royals' star. While no decision has been announced, his comments have strengthened speculation that Vaibhav could soon be rewarded with an opportunity at the international level.
After a record-breaking IPL season, the teenager appears to have placed himself firmly in the selectors’ plans for the future.
"Vaibhav is the new wonderkid of Indian cricket, and I am absolutely confident that he will make waves across the world in the coming days. All our selectors are part of the IPL tournament. Everyone, all the selectors are watching these matches very closely, and in most cases, they are also present in the stadium. So in the upcoming selection meetings for the Indian team's tour of the UK, I am fully confident that the selectors will do what is necessary and in his best interest, given the way he has performed. Many other players also performed brilliantly, but Vaibhav is amazing, and I am very happy that by God's grace, Indian cricket has found a new wonderkid at this time, and he will cross all boundaries very soon."
