New Delhi: Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings have had an extremely poor run in IPL 2026. In their opening matches, the team has appeared weak across all three departments. Fans are deeply disappointed by Chennai's defeats. Furthermore, Ravichandran Ashwin—who has previously played for Chennai—is also unhappy with the team's performance and has admitted that watching the side struggle in this manner is incredibly painful.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin stated that while he is prepared to face criticism, he cannot simply overlook the team's dismal performance. The Chennai Super Kings have lost both of their opening fixtures in IPL 2026 and currently sit at the bottom of the points table.
When Chennai Super Kings took the field at Chepauk, they posted a formidable total of 209 runs; however, their bowlers once again failed to defend the score, allowing Punjab Kings to comfortably clinch the match. With this result, the glaring weakness in Chennai's bowling attack has once again been exposed. On his YouTube channel, Ashwin shared his reactions regarding the team's performance.
On his YouTube channel, Ashwin remarked, "I do not blame any individual player. However, observing from the outside, it is sometimes very difficult to watch. You know how this team used to be in the past. I truly felt this today while watching the match directly—for the first time—from the commentary box at the stadium. People can say whatever they want; it makes no difference to me."
Delhi Capitals have climbed to the top spot on the points table. The team defeated Mumbai Indians in their second match. Delhi's Sameer Rizvi currently holds the Orange Cap, having scored 160 runs across two matches. The Purple Cap is currently held by Vijay Kumar.
He further added, "You can judge me, you can criticize me however you wish—it makes no difference. For me, Chennai is a matter of pride. Think whatever you like; it doesn't bother me. But when I watched this team today, by the 15th over, everyone's shoulders had slumped." It was very painful to watch. Truly very painful. With inexperienced players, you can see it in their body language. The atmosphere becomes crystal clear. It was truly disheartening.
