Chennai: Former champions Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by 23 runs in an IPL 2026 clash here on Saturday. This marks the Chennai Super Kings' first victory in this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) following three consecutive defeats.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals suffered their second consecutive loss. Batting first, the Chennai Super Kings posted a total of 212 runs for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs, largely thanks to a century by Samson. In reply, despite a strong start, the Delhi Capitals could only manage 189 runs in 20 overs—losing all their wickets—as they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. For Chennai, Overton claimed four wickets.
The Chennai Super Kings scored 212 runs for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs against the Delhi Capitals, powered by a century from Sanju Samson. Sanju was the top scorer for Chennai, contributing 113 runs. For Delhi, Axar Patel took one wicket. In response, KL Rahul and Nissanka provided a solid start for the Delhi Capitals. The duo shared a 61-run partnership for the first wicket off just 30 balls.
Rahul was dismissed after scoring 18 runs off 10 balls, while Nissanka departed after making 41 runs off 24 balls. Axar Patel could only manage a single run. Sameer Rizvi scored 6 runs. David Miller returned to the pavilion after scoring 17 runs off 14 balls. Ashutosh was dismissed after scoring 19 runs. Tristan Stubbs scored 60 runs off 38 balls. Kuldeep and Ngidi could only score 4 and 3 runs, respectively. Anshul brought the Delhi innings to a close by dismissing Lungi. Anshul finished with a haul of three wickets.
Batting first, the Chennai Super Kings got off to a good start. Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad shared a 62-run partnership for the first wicket. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 15 runs off 18 balls. Samson scored 115 runs off 56 balls in an unbeaten innings, studded with 15 fours and four sixes. He received excellent support from the other end from Ayush Mahatre, who scored 59 runs off 36 balls—including three fours and four sixes—before retiring out. This marks the fourth century of Samson's IPL career and his first for the Super Kings. Axar Patel claimed the solitary wicket for the Capitals.
