IPL 2026: Mumbai Indians Clinch Dharamshala Thriller, Hand Fifth Consecutive Defeat To Punjab Kings

Dharamshala: Mumbai Indians defeated Punjab Kings by 6 wickets in the IPL 2026 match played in Dharamshala on Thursday. Mumbai secured the victory in the final over. Tilak Varma scored an unbeaten 75 runs for Mumbai. Batting first, Punjab Kings posted a total of 200 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, thanks to powerful innings from Tilak Varma and Ryan Rickelton, Mumbai Indians chased down the target, scoring 205 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 19.5 overs to claim the match. This marks Mumbai's fourth victory of the ongoing season, while Punjab has suffered its fifth consecutive defeat.

What happened during the match?

Batting first in the match against Mumbai Indians in Dharamshala, Punjab Kings scored 200 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. For Punjab, Prabhsimran Singh was the top scorer with 57 runs. In response, Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton provided a strong start for Mumbai Indians. The duo shared a 61-run partnership for the first wicket. Ryan Rickelton was dismissed after scoring 48 runs off 23 balls. Naman could only manage 9 runs off 6 balls. Rohit Sharma contributed 25 runs off 26 balls.

For Mumbai, Shardul Thakur claimed four wickets. Batting first, Punjab Kings suffered their first blow in the form of Priyansh Arya; Deepak Chahar clean bowled him. Meanwhile, Prabhsimran welcomed Shardul into the attack with three boundaries. Prabhsimran received a second life when he was on a score of 28, as Corbin Bosch dropped a catch off his own bowling. Cooper Connolly hit the first six of the innings off Raghu Sharma in the eighth over, followed by two boundaries off Will Jacks. Prabhsimran also smashed two consecutive sixes off Raghu, and then completed his half-century in 29 balls with a six and a single off Bosch. Punjab reached the 100-run mark in the 11th over. Shardul then dealt a double blow to Punjab by dismissing Prabhsimran and captain Shreyas Iyer (04) within the span of three deliveries.

After smashing a six off Shardul, Prabhsimran attempted to repeat the shot on the very next ball but ended up handing a catch to Bosch at mid-wicket. Iyer opened his account with a boundary off Shardul but was bowled on the following delivery. In the next over, Raj Bawa bowled Connolly (21), taking Punjab's score to 111 runs for the loss of four wickets. Suryansh Shedege, too, was caught by Bawa off Shardul's bowling after scoring eight runs. Azmatullah Omarzai hit a six off Bosch, but the fast bowler dismissed Shashank Singh (02) leg-before-wicket (LBW). Punjab posted a total of 135 runs for the loss of six wickets in 15 overs. Shardul subsequently dismissed Marco Jansen (02) LBW as well. In the 18th over of the innings, Omarzai (38) struck a four and two sixes off consecutive deliveries from Chahar, but was caught by Jacks on the very next ball.
