Guwahati: Rajasthan Royals rode some excellent bowling and a hurricane knock by teenaged prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi to secure an explosive start to their IPL 2026 campaign by crushing former champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 8 wickets. The match took place at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, where Rajasthan won the toss and elected to bowl first. CSK managed to score only 127 runs. In response, Rajasthan chased down the target in just the 13th over. Vaibhav Suryavanshi once again played an explosive innings for RR, smashing a fifty in a mere 15 balls.
Chasing a target of 128 runs, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings for Rajasthan. Vaibhav went on the offensive right from the very first ball, smashing a fifty in just 15 deliveries. Rajasthan's score stood at 75 runs when Vaibhav's wicket fell. Vaibhav scored 52 runs off 17 balls; his innings featured 4 fours and 5 sixes. Following Vaibhav's dismissal, Dhruv Jurel came out to bat. He played an innings of 18 runs, but Anshul Kamboj claimed his wicket in the 9th over. However, Captain Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal then took charge of the innings. The duo guided Rajasthan to victory in the 13th over itself. This defeat is particularly concerning for CSK, as the team had a dismal previous season and finished at the bottom of the points table.

Batting first, Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad opened the innings for CSK. However, T20 World Cup hero Sanju appeared to be out of form. In just the second over, Nandre Burger clean bowled Sanju. Following this, CSK had high hopes resting on Matthew Short; however, he too was dismissed in the sixth over after scoring just two runs.
Sarfaraz Khan then attempted to stabilize the innings, but in the eighth over—during his very first over of the spell—Jadeja claimed his wicket. Sarfaraz contributed 17 runs with the bat. At the time of Sarfaraz's dismissal, CSK's score stood at 51-5. In the same over, Jadeja also accounted for the dismissal of Shivam Dube. Shivam scored 6 runs. After 10 overs, CSK's score was 71-6.
