RCB, IPL 2026
Last year, celebrations after RCB won their maiden IPL title resulted in a tragic stampede at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Eleven people lost their lives in the incident. Following the tragedy, hosting matches at the venue was put on hold. Even the Ranji Trophy final between Karnataka and Jammu & Kashmir was shifted to Hubballi. Safety reviews and discussions were carried out before fresh approval was granted.
The Karnataka government recently gave in-principle approval to resume IPL matches at the stadium. Authorities reviewed security and crowd management measures. Officials ensured that necessary arrangements were strengthened. Only after completing required procedures was confirmation given. This clearance paved the way for RCB’s return to Bengaluru.
RCB said the development became possible after months of coordination with stakeholders. The franchise thanked the Karnataka government, Karnataka State Cricket Association and Karnataka Police. It acknowledged the support received during the approval process. The team described the confirmation as a positive step for players and fans.
RCB CEO Rajesh Menon stated that Chinnaswamy is more than just a home ground. He said it is the place where the team’s identity truly comes alive. According to him, the energy of Bengaluru fans has always been a driving force for players. He added that supporters deserve to see their team play at home. He confirmed that all required permissions have been secured.
Two of RCB’s home games will be played in Raipur to ensure scheduling flexibility. The Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium has previously hosted IPL matches. The move allows the franchise to expand its fan engagement beyond Karnataka. Strong attendance is expected there as well.
Under Rajat Patidar’s captaincy, RCB ended their title drought last season by defeating Punjab Kings by six runs in the final. Expectations are high for the upcoming season. Playing five matches at Chinnaswamy will boost team morale. Fans are eager to return to the stadium. IPL 2026 is set to bring cricket back to Bengaluru in full energy.
