Rishabh Pant Comeback: Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is likely to play for the Delhi team in the second round of the Ranji Trophy. The match will start from October 25 and it is believed that Pant will return to the field after recovering from injury. In the last month, Indian team selector Ajit Agarkar had already indicated that Pant could be seen playing in a two-Test series against South Africa.
In fact, during the Manchester Test in July, English bowler Chris Woakes's yorker ball was on Pant's leg. Despite this, Pant, instead of leaving the field due to injury, played an important innings for India. In this innings, he scored a half-century and helped the team to draw the match. Later, India won the last Test at the Oval by 6 runs and leveled the series 2–2. According to sources, Pant is now in the final stages of the rehab. He will give a fitness test at the end of this week at the BCCI Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. His condition is now completely stable and he can walk without any problem. Pant is doing mobility exercises and weight training to strengthen the leg and has also started batting practice on the nets.
If Pant passes the fitness test, they can join the Delhi team. The Ranji Trophy second round match will start on 25 October. Delhi's first match is against Hyderabad on 15 October. However, according to the Delhi and District Cricket Association, Pant is still doubtful to play in this match.
Pant displayed excellent form on the England tour. He scored 479 runs in four matches, including two centuries and three half-centuries. His strike rate was 77.63 and he was the sixth-highest run scorer of the series. His contribution strengthened the team on many important turns.
The team appointed Dhruv Juril as the chief wicketkeeper in place of Rishabh Pant, who was absent during the West Indies series. Jurael played an explosive inning of 125 runs in the Ahmedabad Test and also performed brilliantly in wicketkeeping. Now Pant's possible return to the Ranji Trophy is expected to bring a new life to the Delhi team.
According to sources, Pant may not only be included in the playing XI but could also be considered for captaincy. Currently, Delhi's captaincy is near Ayush Badoni, who is also a fellow player of Pant in the IPL and plays for Lucknow Super Giants. With the return of Pant, Delhi's batting will be stronger, and young players will also benefit from their experience and guidance. This Ranji Trophy can prove to be exciting and extremely interesting for fans who monitor Pant's form and fitness.
