The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a 17-member squad on Sunday for the upcoming T20I tri-series and Asia Cup, which will be held in the UAE from 29 August to 28 September. Salman Agha has been named the captain for both tournaments.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan Dropped

Notably, Pakistan captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan have been left out of the squad. Despite being the second-highest run-scorer in T20Is, Babar was excluded following his performance in the recent West Indies ODIs, where he scored only 56 runs in three matches, with a top score of 47. Fakhar Zaman, who had a hamstring injury during the West Indies T20I series, has been included. Saim Ayub, who scored the most runs for Pakistan in the recent T20I series against the West Indies, has also made it to the team. All-rounder Hasan Nawaz, who scored 112 runs in three matches against the West Indies, has been rewarded with a place in the squad. Pace bowler Naseem Shah, despite being the leading wicket-taker in the West Indies series, was dropped from the squad.

Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead the pace attack, joined by Haris Rauf, Mohammad Waseem Jnr, and Salman Mirza. Abrar Ahmed will lead the spinners along with Mohammad Nawaz, Sufyan Moqim, and Khushdil Shah. The ACC Asia Cup T20I, an eight-team tournament, will take place in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from 9 to 28 September. Pakistan has been placed in Group 'A' with India, Oman, and the UAE.
