Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the Code of Conduct during the fourth day of the third Test match against England at Lord’s. The incident occurred after Siraj took the wicket of Ben Duckett early in England’s second innings.
The ICC found Siraj guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of its Code of Conduct, which relates to using gestures or language that could provoke a batter after their dismissal. After getting Duckett out for 12, Siraj celebrated too close to the batter and even slightly brushed past him during his follow-through.
As a result, Siraj was fined 15 per cent of his match fee and handed one demerit point. This is his second offence in the last two years. If a player collects four or more demerit points within 24 months, they can face suspension.
Earlier in the day, England fought hard, with Joe Root and Ben Stokes putting together a strong 67-run stand. "Washington Sundar removed Joe Root for 40 and later claimed the crucial wicket of Jamie Smith, finishing with excellent figures of 4 for 22 as India bowled England out for 192."
India were set a target of 193 runs to win the Test match and move ahead 2-1 in the series.
India’s chase started poorly. Yashasvi Jaiswal was out for a duck to Jofra Archer, and Karun Nair's dismissal after a small partnership with KL Rahul opened the floodgates. The Indian captain Shubman Gill was trapped LBW by Brydon Carse after facing intense pressure from England’s fielders.
Nightwatchman Akash Deep was dismissed right before the day ended, leaving India struggling at 58/4. They now need 90 more runs with three wickets in hand to win the match on Day 5.
