Ahmedabad: The Indian team created a record with its impressive batting performance in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. They posted a mammoth total of 255/6 against New Zealand, the highest total ever made in a T20 World Cup final. Previously, India had scored 176 for 7 in the last World Cup in 2026, and Rohit Sharma's team lifted the trophy.

For India, opener Sanju Samson smashed 89 runs in 46 balls, including 5 fours and 8 sixes, marking his third consecutive half-century. Abhishek Sharma scored 52 runs in 21 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes, while Ishan Kishan smashed 54 runs in 25 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes. Shivam Dubey scored a massive run in the final over.

What happened during the Indian innings?

New Zealand won the toss in the T20 World Cup final, and Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma made a killing.
After winning the toss, Mitchell Santner elected to bowl first. The Indian team came out unchanged, opening the innings with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. An LBW appeal was made on the second ball of Matt Henry's first over, which the umpire rejected. Sanju then opened his and the team's account with a six off the fifth ball. The team's score was 12 runs in the second over, but Jacob Duffy conceded 15 runs in the next over, and Lockie Ferguson conceded 24 runs in the fourth over. India reached 51 runs in four overs.

Abhishek Sharma scored the fastest fifty, Sanju Samson's third consecutive half-century. Matt Henry conceded 21 runs in the fifth over, and 20 runs in the sixth. Out-of-form Abhishek Sharma reached the fastest half-century of the T20 World Cup 2026 in 18 balls. However, he mistimed a wide delivery and was caught by Tim Seifert off Indian-origin Rachin Ravindra. He hit six fours and three sixes in 21 balls. Sanju then reached his half-century off the last ball of the 11th over, off 33 balls. This is his third consecutive half-century. James Neesham took three wickets in a single over, Suryakumar Yadav could not open his account.

On the other hand, Ishan Kishan unleashed a barrage of fours and sixes as soon as he arrived. He reached his half-century in 23 balls. Sanju was on his way to a century but was dismissed by James Neesham for 89 runs. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav also fell in the same over. The captain could not open his account. Hardik Pandya was also dismissed after this. He scored 18 runs in 13 balls, which included a six and a four.
