New Delhi: The T20 World Cup 2026, being jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, is now poised to advance beyond the group stage and into the Super 8. All the teams for the Super 8 have been finalized. The eight teams advancing to the next stage have been divided into two groups. India is placed in Group 1 of the Super 8, while Pakistan is placed in Group 2. Group 1 includes Zimbabwe, West Indies, and South Africa alongside India. Group 2 includes Pakistan alongside New Zealand, England, and Sri Lanka.
The most notable feature of Group 1, the group in which India is placed, is that all its teams have performed exceptionally well and reached the Super 8. All four teams in India's group have not lost a single match in the group stage. The Indian team itself won all four of its four matches and topped its group to advance to the Super 8. In addition to India, South Africa also reached the Super 8 by winning all four of its matches and topping the group stage. Furthermore, the West Indies team won all four matches in the group stage and advanced to the Super 8. Zimbabwe also topped its group. Considered the weakest team in the tournament, they defeated teams like Australia and Sri Lanka to finish atop their group with 7 points from four matches, with 3 wins and 1 abandoned match. Sri Lanka finished second in the group with 6 points. Zimbabwe's third group stage match, against Ireland, was abandoned due to rain.
Thus, all the teams in India's group have remained undefeated so far and are entering the Super 8 with strong performances. This group is expected to witness an exciting battle between the teams. To reach the semi-finals, India will have to defeat major teams like South Africa and the West Indies, as well as face the challenge of Zimbabwe. Two teams each from each Super 8 group will qualify for the semi-finals.
On the other hand, in Group 2, all teams have qualified for the Super 8 after finishing second in the group stage. Sri Lanka lost their match against Zimbabwe. England was defeated by the West Indies. New Zealand was defeated by South Africa, and Pakistan was comprehensively defeated by India by 61 runs. Thus, all teams have won three of their four group matches and advanced to the Super 8 with six points. Three teams from Group 1 of the Super 8 have won all four of their matches and advanced to the next stage. Zimbabwe has won three matches but has not lost a single one.
