Bangladesh has refused to send its team to India, citing security concerns following the BCCI's instructions to remove fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL. Meanwhile, diplomatic relations between the two countries remain strained due to attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.
According to media reports, the ICC board meeting on Wednesday discussed Bangladesh's participation, with most International Cricket Council officials in favor of excluding Bangladesh. The ICC board has decided that if the Bangladesh team wants to remain in the tournament, they must play in India; otherwise, another team will be included in the World Cup in their place. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has been given a one-day deadline. If Bangladesh refuses to play, then Scotland will be selected for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
According to ICC officials, it is understood that the ICC has told the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to inform the Bangladesh government that if Bangladesh continues to refuse to travel to India to play its matches in the 2026 T20 World Cup, then it will be replaced by another team at the tournament. That decision was followed by a vote, where the majority of the ICC Board was in favour of having a replacement. BCB have been given one more day to come back to the ICC on its stance on playing in India.
