Indore: New Zealand achieved a historic victory against India on Sunday. In the series decider of the three-match series played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, the Kiwis defeated India by 41 runs. This is the first time that New Zealand has won an ODI series against India on Indian soil.

What landmark has New Zealand achieved?

New Zealand, batting first in the third ODI, scored 337 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs. In reply, the Indian team tried to make a comeback with the help of Virat Kohli's century, but could not play the full quota of overs. India scored 296 runs, losing all their wickets in 46 overs. Virat Kohli was the highest scorer for India with 124 runs. Fox and Clarke took 3 wickets each for New Zealand.

How did the Indian batters perform?

Chasing a target of 338 runs, the Indian team suffered its first setback in the fourth over. Opening batsman Rohit Sharma was dismissed after scoring 11 runs off 13 balls. Indian captain Shubman Gill became Jamieson's victim after scoring 23 runs off 18 balls. Shreyas Iyer could only manage three runs off 10 balls. 

Star batsman KL Rahul could not stay at the crease for long and scored only one run off 6 balls. Nitish Reddy was dismissed after scoring 53 runs off 57 balls. Ravindra Jadeja became Jaden's victim after scoring 12 runs off 16 balls. Virat Kohli was playing a century innings. Harshit Rana contributed a quickfire 52 runs off 43 balls. Siraj failed to open his account. Experienced batsman Virat Kohli returned to the pavilion after scoring 124 runs off 108 balls. The Indian innings ended with Kuldeep Yadav's run-out.

What happened during the New Zealand innings?

New Zealand, batting first against India in the third ODI, scored 337 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs. Daryl Mitchell was the highest scorer for New Zealand with 137 runs. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh took 3 wickets each for India. Indian team captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl first. India had a good start. New Zealand, batting first, lost the wicket of Henry Nicholls in the very first over. He was dismissed without scoring. Arshdeep Singh took his wicket. Harshit Rana then sent Devon Conway back to the pavilion. Conway managed only 5 runs.

Will Young scored 30 runs off 41 balls before being dismissed by Rana. Arshdeep Singh broke the partnership between Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell. Phillips was out after scoring 106 runs off 88 balls. Daryl Mitchell played a knock of 137 runs off 131 balls before being dismissed by Mohammed Siraj. Hay and Fox returned to the pavilion after scoring 10 runs each. For India, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana took three wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav claimed one wicket each.
