New Delhi: The final round of the group stage is now underway in the T20 World Cup 2026, and things have become quite exciting. 30 out of a total of 40 matches have been played, and 10 days have passed. 5 teams have already been eliminated, 5 have secured a place in the Super 8, and the fight for the remaining 3 spots is in full swing. Both Australia and Pakistan are in danger.

Which 5 teams have qualified for Super 8?

These five teams have already advanced to the next round:

  • India (top from Group A, 3 wins out of 3)
  • Sri Lanka (from Group B, qualified by defeating Australia by 8 wickets)
  • West Indies (from Group C)
  • England (from Group C, qualified by beating Italy)
  • South Africa (from Group D)

Which 5 teams had to be eliminated from the tournament?

These teams are now out as they are last in their group and have no chances:

  • Namibia (Group A)
  • Oman (Group B)
  • Scotland (Group C)
  • Italy (Group C)
  • Nepal (Group C)

How bad is the condition of Australia?

Australia is in third place in Group B – only 1 win, 2 losses, 2 points and NRR 0.414 in 3 matches. Sri Lanka defeated them by 8 wickets (Pathum Nissanka scored a century), and had also lost to Zimbabwe before that. Now if Zimbabwe wins even one of its remaining matches (like against Ireland), Australia will be out. They will have to win their remaining matches and depend on the results of others. Captain Mitchell Marsh has said that now it is all "in the hands of fate".

What is the situation in Pakistan?

Pakistan is third in Group A – 2 wins, 1 loss in 3 matches (lost badly to India), 4 points but NRR -0.403 which is much lower than USA's 0.788. India has already qualified. Now Pakistan's last match is against Namibia – if they win, they will reach Super 8 with 6 points. But if India loses, there will be a NRR fight with USA, and the chances will reduce. The crushing defeat against India spoiled their NRR, so there is a lot of pressure.

What is the latest points table of the groups?

  • Group A: India (6 points, qualified), USA (4), Pakistan (4), Netherlands (2), Namibia (0, out)
  • Group B: Sri Lanka (6, qualified), Zimbabwe (4), Australia (2), Ireland (2), Oman (0, out)
  • Group C: West Indies (6, qualified), England (6, qualified), Scotland/Italy/Nepal out
  • Group D: South Africa (6, qualified), New Zealand (4), Afghanistan (2), UAE (2), Canada (0)

What will happen now? Which teams can take the remaining 3 spots?

Teams like Zimbabwe, New Zealand, USA, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are fighting for the remaining 3 spots. In Group D, New Zealand can qualify if it beats Canada. If Zimbabwe beats Ireland in Group B, Australia will be out. The Pakistan vs. Namibia match in Group A is going to be do or die.
