Russia-Ukraine War: No concrete solution has been found so far to the war that has been going on between Russia and Ukraine for the past several months. But hopes of ending this war were revived when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a special meeting with European leaders in Istanbul, Turkey. In this meeting, he made it clear that if Russia still does not give up its stubbornness, then more stringent sanctions will have to be imposed on it.
European Council President Antonio Costa, European Union President Ursula von der Leyen, Prime Ministers of Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden were also present in this meeting. During this, Zelensky appealed to everyone that now the time has come to take more strict action against Russia, so that this war ends and peace returns to Ukraine. He said that it is necessary to increase pressure on Russia and if it is not ready to stop the war then the 17th sanctions package should be even stricter.
Zelensky also said during the meeting that Ukraine now needs more defense cooperation. He said that European countries will now have to increase defense production so that Ukraine can get immediate help.
On this occasion, Zelensky especially thanked the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schopf. He said that this year the Netherlands has given three times more military help to Ukraine than last time. In a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Zelensky said that Denmark is preparing the 26th defense aid package. Also, Denmark will take over the presidency of the European Union Council from July, which will be a positive opportunity for Ukraine.
Zelensky wrote in his post, "If Russia still does not agree to ceasefire, then pressure will have to be increased." He appealed to European leaders that Russia's stubbornness should not be tolerated any longer. One thing has become clear from this entire meeting that Ukraine is now not only relying on diplomacy for peace, but also on international support and pressure strategy. This new step by Zelensky may perhaps become the beginning of the end of this long war.
