'Almost lynched': Ravneet Bittu accuses Priyanka Gandhi of plotting during Farmers's protest (X)

New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu, who was allegedly assaulted at his visit to the farmers protest site during the farm law agitation, on Tuesday said that he will file a complaint against Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi.

What did Ravneet Singh Bittu claim?

Ravneet Singh Bittu said that he would file a complaint against Priyanka seeking a probe into the circumstances under which she had sent him to meet protesting farmers during the farm law agitation in 2020-21.

Bittu during an interview with The Tribune said that at the time he had no reason to doubt Priyanka Gandhi's intentions despite being aware of the hostility of the agitating farmers towards him.

However, the Union Minister said that he now wants the matter investigated.

Referring to the incident in which he and Congress MLA Kulbir Zira were allegedly attacked during the farmers’ protest, Bittu told The Tribune that, “I would like it to be probed what the intention was. Anything could have happened that day. We were almost lynched.”

Ravneet Bittu also claimed that this act may have been a “plan an design” to cause him harm.

What did Bittu say about Rahul Gandhi’s ‘traitor’ remark?

Ravneet Bittu, while responding to “traitor” remark against him by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, said that “Many Congress leaders and MPs have joined from other parties. Does Rahul mean they are all traitors?”

How did the Congress react?

Congress leaders came forward to defend Priyanka Gandhi after Bittu said he would file a formal complaint against her.

In a post on X, senior Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa, wrote, “Years later, Ravneet Bittu memory has made a miraculous recovery, right on cue when his political masters tighten the chokehold. Selective dementia, it seems, follows a convenient calendar. A spent bullet of Punjab politics is now making the loudest noise, proof that when relevance runs low, even old cartridges try to echo like fresh ammunition. Dragging Priyanka Gandhi ji into this feels like a headline hunt. Some scripts are clearly recycled, just with a louder mic.”

Punjab Congress Chief Raja Warring also supported Priyanka and said that “Though strange, but not surprising that  Ravneet Bittu has shamelessly tried to drag Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi ji into an incident that happened with him six years ago. It is so childish on his part to suggest that Gandhi deliberately forced him to go to the farmers’ protests where, he claims, he was almost lynched. Needless to say that these charges deserve to be dismissed with the contempt they deserve. At the same time one feels sad and pity for Bittu that what he is forced to do to be in the good books of his masters.”
