Bathinda Water Project
Bathinda has faced water shortage and quality problems for many years. Several localities struggled with dry taps and contaminated water. This daily hardship affected health and dignity. The new Rs 26 crore project directly addresses this basic issue. The goal is permanent relief. Clean water is treated as a citizen’s right. The Mann Government has placed people first.
The project is funded under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. It focuses on providing continuous water supply. Modern and sustainable infrastructure will be developed. New pipelines and storage systems will be installed. Water conservation techniques will be used. The system is designed for long term needs. It reflects future ready planning.
Two major water tanks will be constructed under the project. One tank will be built in Amarpura Basti. The second will be located in Model Town Phase 4 and 5. Each tank will have a capacity of two lakh gallons. Around sixty three thousand meters of pipeline will be laid. About eight thousand six hundred houses will receive direct connections. Nearly thirty five thousand residents will benefit.
Model Town Phase 4 and 5 will see major improvement. Amarpura Basti residents will get uninterrupted supply. Earlier these areas depended on borrowed water. Tankers and irregular supply created daily stress. This project promises a permanent solution. Household routines will become smoother. Women and children will benefit the most.
Mayor Padamjeet Singh Mehta called the project a historic step. He said the era of water borrowing will end. He thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for the support. He also thanked Local Bodies Minister Dr Ravjot Singh. He said strengthening infrastructure is a government priority. The project marks a new beginning. Public welfare remains the focus.
Clean drinking water reduces water borne diseases. Illnesses like typhoid and dysentery will decline. Children will grow healthier. Medical expenses will come down. Overall health indicators will improve. Safe water ensures better quality of life. This is preventive healthcare in action.
Bathinda moves closer to becoming a water secure city. The project strengthens public trust in governance. It shows service driven administration. Other cities may follow this model. The Mann Government has shown seriousness about basic needs. This is only the beginning. Punjab aims for sustainable urban growth.
