New Delhi: An atmosphere filled with emotion, honour and pride was witnessed at the Adarsh Auditorium of Delhi Police Headquarters on Wednesday. A piping ceremony was organised to honour 73 police personnel who had spent years shouldering the responsibility of maintaining security and law and order in the national capital. On the occasion of their retirement, the personnel were conferred the next higher honorary rank than their existing rank. Senior Delhi Police officers, along with the families of the retiring personnel, were present at the ceremony.
The ceremony was presided over by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar. He congratulated the retiring personnel for their years of dedicated service and honoured them by placing the badges of their next higher honorary rank on their shoulders. The moment was emotional and a matter of pride for the police personnel.
During the ceremony, the Delhi Police Commissioner said that serving in the police force is not an easy responsibility. Police personnel remain on the streets day and night, carrying out duties related to public safety, law and order, and public service. He appreciated the hard work, dedication and commitment demonstrated by the retiring personnel throughout their long careers.
The Commissioner also highlighted the important role played by the families of police personnel. He said that while police personnel remain on duty in difficult circumstances, their families provide them with constant support from behind the scenes. The sacrifices, support and encouragement of their families give police personnel the strength to fulfil challenging responsibilities.
The Police Commissioner said that police personnel have direct contact with the public, and officers in uniform on the streets create a sense of security and trust among citizens. He urged the retiring personnel to continue sharing their experience with society and the department and to remain ambassadors of the good work carried out by the Delhi Police.
He said that during their years of police service, personnel often do not get enough time for their families. Due to the demands of the job, many personal wishes and long-pending plans are also put on hold. Retirement will give them an opportunity to spend more time with their families and fulfil their unfinished aspirations.
A total of 73 retiring police personnel were conferred the next higher honorary ranks at the ceremony. These included:
One Constable was conferred the honorary rank of Head Constable.
Two Head Constables were conferred the honorary rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI).
21 Assistant Sub-Inspectors were conferred the honorary rank of Sub-Inspector.
49 Sub-Inspectors were conferred the honorary rank of Inspector.
As the stars and badges of their next honorary ranks were placed on the shoulders of the retiring personnel, the auditorium erupted in applause. The ceremony was not merely a formal event but a symbol of the department's recognition of their years of hard work, responsibility and dedicated service.
The presence of the families of the retiring personnel made the occasion even more special. For the families who had, over the years, seen their loved ones leave for duty during festivals, family functions and other important occasions, the day was filled with pride and emotion.
The Delhi Police Commissioner wished all the retiring personnel a healthy, happy and fulfilling life ahead. He assured them that even after retirement, they would continue to remain an integral part of the Delhi Police family.
