‘Lady Cops’ Hit Delhi Streets In 15 Teams To Boost Women’s Safety

New Delhi: To further strengthen the safety of women and girls in the capital, the Delhi Police’s Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) has intensified its on-ground operations. Under the leadership of DCP Neha Yadav, 15 special teams comprising 95 female police personnel are conducting patrols—both on foot and on scooters—across various districts of Delhi. The presence of these female officers aims to instill a sense of security in markets, parks, educational institutions, public spaces, and sensitive areas.

SPUWAC DCP Neha Yadav stated that the teams regularly visit locations with high footfall of women and girls. Parks, dimly lit spots, and sensitive or high-risk zones are covered during foot patrols, while markets, public spaces, educational institutions, residential areas, and other key locations are monitored via scooter patrols.

During these patrols, the female officers keep a close watch for incidents of molestation, harassment, suspicious activities, and other safety-related issues. Simultaneously, they interact with women, girls, and local residents to inform them about the available channels for police assistance. The police aim to encourage the public to immediately report any suspicious activity or incident.

This initiative goes beyond mere patrolling; it is also a step towards fostering direct communication between the police and the general public. The active presence of female officers focuses on making local security arrangements more effective and boosting the confidence of women. SPUWAC has affirmed that such proactive security measures will continue to ensure the safety, protection, and empowerment of women and children. This deployment of female police personnel across various parts of Delhi is part of the police's ongoing efforts to make the capital safer and more women-friendly.
