DU Professor Murdered Over West Bengal Land Dispute; 3 Arrested

Delhi Police have arrested three individuals from West Bengal for the murder of Delhi University Assistant Professor Dr. Debosmita Paul over a property dispute involving ancestral land.

New Delhi: The mystery behind the murder of Delhi University professor Dr. Debosmita Paul has been solved. Delhi Police arrested three people on Sunday. One of them is a woman. All three were caught from West Bengal.
They had travelled 1400 kilometres to commit the crime.

Who was she?

Dr. Debosmita Paul was serving as an Assistant Professor in the English department at Shivaji College, Delhi University. She lived alone in Satyam Enclave, Vasundhara Enclave in East Delhi. She had separated from her husband in 2022. The two had married in 2017 but parted ways due to domestic disputes.

Why was she killed?

It was a property dispute. Dr. Debosmita was the legal heir of her grandfather's land in West Bengal. Her elder brother and sister wanted to sell that land. But she was refused to sell that land.
A tenant couple was also living on that same land. They wanted to buy it. When the professor said no to them too, the couple decided to act.

What happened that night?

The tenant couple along with their child travelled all the way from Bengal to Delhi. They went to the professor's house. An argument broke out.
The accused hit her on the head with a heavy object. She died on the spot.
Their child was outside the house when the murder took place.

How they caught?

The accused had worn masks. But they were still captured on CCTV cameras near the spot.
Police used the footage to track them down. All three were arrested from West Bengal.
Investigation is continuing.
