East Delhi Development Committee Reviews Public Grievances, Stresses Timely Action (Pankaj Rai)
East Delhi: Addressing public grievances, speeding up development work and ensuring accountability among government departments were the key issues discussed at the monthly meeting of the East Delhi District Development Committee. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Anil Goyal, committee chairman and MLA from the Krishna Nagar Assembly constituency.
Public representatives raised concerns from their respective areas, urging officials to speed up action on pending matters and ensure that residents receive timely relief.
The meeting also reviewed action taken on directions issued during the previous session. Officials were urged to ensure that discussions translate into practical solutions and that departments fulfil their responsibilities without unnecessary delays.
The meeting highlighted the need to speed up payments to eligible beneficiaries under the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana and streamline the process of issuing new ration cards. The focus was on ensuring that eligible residents receive the benefits of government schemes on time without having to make repeated visits to government offices.
The issue of roads being left damaged after excavation for construction and maintenance work was also discussed. Roads dug up by the Delhi Jal Board, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and other agencies for laying pipelines or cables often remain in poor condition, causing inconvenience to commuters and residents.
Officials were urged to prioritise road repairs and restore level road surfaces within seven to ten days of excavation.
Improving cleanliness in East Delhi's markets and residential areas was another key concern. The meeting emphasised identifying sensitive locations where garbage accumulates and preparing a list of such areas. At least two rounds of cleaning a day were suggested for these locations.
Discussions also covered night-time cleaning in markets, timely garbage collection and improving waste compaction arrangements.
The problem of encroachments returning after removal was also raised. Better coordination between the concerned departments and Delhi Police was considered necessary to prevent repeat violations and establish accountability.
The meeting also addressed faulty streetlights on major roads, drain repairs and the risk of waterlogging. The concerned agencies were asked to prioritise these issues to improve public safety and basic civic facilities.
Matters related to the Delhi Jal Board included concerns about water discharged from sewage treatment plants reaching the Yamuna. The need to develop pipeline infrastructure for the proper disposal and reuse of treated water was discussed. Officials were also urged to resolve complaints quickly and accelerate repair and maintenance work.
MLAs Ravi Negi, Ravikant, Sanjay Goyal, Yashpal Kentura and other public representatives raised issues affecting their respective areas.
The concerns included encroachments on Delhi Development Authority land, damaged roads and traffic management. A demand was also raised for the construction of a U-turn on BA Road near the Krishna Nagar area to make commuting more convenient for local residents.
Concluding the meeting, Dr. Anil Goyal stressed the importance of better coordination between public representatives and government officials to resolve civic issues effectively.
The discussions focused on improving sanitation, roads, water supply, sewerage, traffic management and other essential public facilities across East Delhi.
