Delhi Horror: 11-Year-Old Girl Kidnapped, Raped and Murdered; Cab Driver Arrested (X)
New Delhi: The heinous incident of rape and murder of an 11-year-old innocent girl in Mehrauli area of South Delhi has shocked the entire area. As soon as the police received the family's complaint, they quickly scanned hundreds of CCTV footage and caught the accused cab driver in just a few hours.
On June 22, the victim's family called the Mehrauli police and informed them about their 11-year-old daughter's disappearance. These people, suffering from poverty, were sleeping on the footpath in Chhatarpur Extension. Suddenly the accused picked up the sleeping girl and put her in his cab and disappeared. The police team started scanning the footage of cameras installed in every corner of the area. A glimpse of a suspicious vehicle was seen on the road from Mehrauli to Gurugram. With the help of the technical team and local sources, 25 year old cab driver Bablu was reached. The police immediately took him into custody.
Bablu confessed to his crime after his arrest. He told that he abducted the girl from the footpath, took her to Gurugram, raped her and then brutally murdered her and threw the body in the Aravali forest near the Mehrauli-Gurugram border. Police have recovered the body and sent it for postmortem.
The police are now investigating deeply whether Bablu had any accomplice or this was his only incident. The accused's mobile phone, cab and other evidence are being investigated in detail. Strict sections of BNS and POCSO Act have been imposed in the case.
As soon as the news spread, people became angry in Mehrauli and surrounding areas. Local people took to the streets and started demanding strict action from the police. The victim's family is in shock. The little girl of this family living on the footpath due to poverty. Family members were present during the postmortem at Safdarjung Hospital.
Police officials said that after watching hundreds of hours of footage and digital tracing, the accused was caught within just 4-6 hours. This case has become an example of the success of technical investigation. But at the same time questions have also been raised regarding the safety of minor children in the capital. How to ensure the safety of poor families living on the footpath has become a big challenge.
Police say that more information is being collected from the accused. The challan will soon be presented in the court on the basis of strong evidence.
