New Delhi: Losing a mobile phone often leaves people with little hope of recovering their valuable device. However, Delhi Police have brought relief to 168 people by tracing and recovering their missing mobile phones under the special drive, Operation Vishwas 2.0.

The North-East District Police returned all 168 recovered devices to their rightful owners. The operation was made possible through technical surveillance, coordinated efforts and the consistent work of police personnel. The initiative has not only helped residents recover their valuable belongings but also strengthened public confidence in the police.

CEIR Portal Helps Track Missing Devices

North-East District DCP Rahul Alwal said the recovery drive was conducted with assistance from the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.

Developed by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) under the Department of Telecommunications, the system uses a mobile phone's unique International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number to block lost or stolen devices from accessing mobile networks.

Even if another SIM card is inserted into a blocked device, it cannot be used normally on mobile networks. When the handset attempts to connect to a telecom network, technical information generated through the system can help police trace its location and identify opportunities for recovery.

DAKSH Team Leads the Recovery Operation

The District Advanced Knowledge-Based Scientific Support Team (DAKSH) played a key role in making the operation successful.

The recovery drive was conducted under the close supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police-II, North-East District, Arvind Kumar. The dedicated team included Sub-Inspector Vishw Vijay, Assistant Sub-Inspector Bijender and Head Constable Nitin. Personnel from various police stations across the district also contributed to the operation.

The team continuously analysed technical inputs received through the CEIR portal and coordinated with telecommunications companies. Through technical monitoring, field verification and sustained follow-up efforts, officers successfully traced and recovered 168 missing mobile phones.

How Were the Recovered Phones Returned to Their Owners?

The recovered devices were handed over to their respective owners in the presence of Assistant Commissioners of Police, station house officers and other officials from the concerned police stations.

For many beneficiaries, receiving their phones back was an unexpected relief, particularly for those who had almost given up hope of recovering them. Several recipients expressed gratitude to Delhi Police, especially the North-East District team, for its efforts and initiative.

Police Urge Citizens to Report Missing Phones Promptly

Delhi Police have advised citizens to immediately report cases of lost or stolen mobile phones and register their device's IMEI number on the CEIR portal to get it blocked.

Officials said timely reporting and registration can improve the chances of tracing and recovering missing devices.

Operation Vishwas 2.0 highlights how modern technology, effective coordination and dedicated police efforts can help return lost property to its rightful owners while strengthening public trust in law enforcement.
