Pledge Taken to Strengthen Democracy; Voter Awareness Campaign to Reach Every Household (Pankaj Rai)
New Delhi: The strength of a democracy lies in the trust of its people, and safeguarding this trust is the responsibility of aware citizens. With this message, a dialogue for enlightened citizens—themed ‘Save Democracy, Eliminate Anarchy’—was held at Govind Banquet in the Krishna Nagar assembly constituency. In the presence of Delhi in-charge and senior leader Vinay Sahasrabuddhe and Krishna Nagar MLA Dr Anil Goyal, hundreds of intellectuals pledged to strengthen democracy and promote voter awareness.
The event saw the participation of influential citizens from various fields, including doctors, engineers, advocates, educators, social workers, and representatives from Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and market associations. During the discussion, speakers deliberated extensively on the democratic system, the role of constitutional institutions, and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Speakers alleged that the Congress and parties associated with the ‘INDI’ alliance are sowing confusion among the public by questioning the credibility of democratic institutions through various issues. Addressing questions from the attendees regarding the SIR process, Vinay Sahasrabuddhe provided detailed information about the procedure.
MLA Dr Anil Goyal emphasised that the inclusion of every eligible citizen’s name in the electoral roll is essential for democratic participation. He explained that eligible citizens whose names are not yet on the list can apply by filling out ‘Form-6’ through the prescribed procedure. The participants pledged to go door-to-door to share accurate information about the SIR process and clear up any misconceptions among voters. Notable figures present at the event included Shahdara District President Deepak Gaba, Ashok Thakur, Piyush Gupta, Jasman Noni, Sandeep Kapoor, Municipal Councillor Raju Sai, Neema Bhagat, and Meenakshi Sharma.
