7 Workers Killed After Wall Collapses At Under-Construction Site In Gurugram

Gurugram: At least seven workers were killed and four others were injured after an under-construction wall collapsed in Gurugram district of Haryana, officials said on Tuesday. The incident happened on Monday evening at the Signature Global Society, where more than ten labourers were trapped under the debris. 

Where did the incident happen?

The incident occurred in a residential society in Sidhrawali area of Gurugram at around 8 pm on Monday, where construction work on a sewage treatment plant was underway. 

About 10-12 workers got trapped under the debris after a mud wall in the basement suddenly collapsed during excavation work, according to officials.

How did the rescue operation happen?

Initially fellow workers present at the site immediately began the rescue operation and later upon receiving the information, the teams from the police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and fire brigade reached the spot and launched the rescue operation.

After a long recue operation, the trapped workers were extricated and taken to a hospital at Bhiwadi where seven of them were declared dead, the officials said.

What did the officials say?

The officials said that, "So far, the bodies of seven workers have been recovered from the debris, while five others who sustained injuries have been admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment."

According to the officials, six of the seven victims have been identified as Satish, Bhagirath, Milan, Shiv Shankar, Mangal and Parmeshwar, further added that the condition of four people, identified as Chotelal, Deendayal, Shivkant and Indrajeet, is critical.

Dr Sagar Arora from Bhiwadi hospital said that, "Seven workers have died after being buried under the debris during excavation work at the construction site. The death toll is likely to increase. Information about the incident has been given to Rajasthan Police as well as Haryana Police. Family members of the deceased are also reaching the hospital."
