Kanpur: Uttar Pradesh Police arrested 30-year-old Divyanshi Chaudhary in Kanpur. This woman allegedly used to rob people on the pretext of marriage. Till now she has married two doctors (or bank managers in some reports) and two sub-inspectors. Transactions worth more than Rs 8 crore have been found in more than 10 of her bank accounts.

How did she fall into her own trap in her fourth marriage?

Divyanshi's last marriage was to Bulandshahr sub-inspector Aditya Kumar Lochav (2019 batch) in February 2024. Aditya is posted in the Gwaltoli police station. The relationship came through relatives; the marriage took place with pomp and show. The lure of a Scorpio car and jewelry worth lakhs was given as dowry. But after marriage, Divyanshi started living less at her in-laws' house and more at her maternal home (Mawana of Meerut). Kept asking for money online on the pretext of “exam preparation.” Aditya became suspicious, and one day when he checked the phone, Divyanshi got upset. She used to delete all the UPI apps!

How was the whole secret revealed?

Aditya got the apps reinstalled and checked the transaction history. There were transactions worth crores of rupees in more than 10 accounts. Divyanshi ran away from her maternal home after having a fight over questioning. Then high-voltage drama happened. She filed a case against Aditya for rape, assault, and embezzlement of Rs 14.50 lakh. She even tried to take possession of her husband's house by breaking the lock and created drama by crying in the police commissioner's office. But Aditya also did not accept defeat. Hundreds of pieces of evidence were collected, the SIT investigation was conducted, and finally ADCP Archana Singh arrested Divyanshi.

Who were the earlier victims?

First the love trap or marriage hoax, then the physical relationship, then the false rape/molestation case, then the case is withdrawn after charging a huge amount in the name of settlement. The two victims were a doctor and a bank manager, from whom lakhs of rupees were extorted in exchange for ending their marriage. An old sub-inspector had already given the money and later joined him. The most shocking thing is that crores of rupees were transferred from Divyanshi's accounts to the accounts of many policemen (up to SI, Inspector, and CO level) of the Meerut zone. The police suspect that she was not alone; she was running the entire gang, and some policemen were involved in it!

Will she go to jail or face new drama?

Police are saying that this is not just a robber bride but an organized blackmail gang. There may be more than 12 victims. Divyanshi will be presented in the court. There will be further interrogation by taking him on remand. All her accounts are being frozen. Victims like Aditya have now got relief, but think—if even a sacred relationship like marriage becomes a means of fraud, then who can one trust?
