The CBI's Special Crime Unit (Delhi) has registered the FIR in this matter and has assumed responsibility for the investigation. Given the gravity of the case, a comprehensive investigation will now be conducted by the central agency.

The CBI has appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police Nishu Kushwaha as the Investigating Officer (IO) for this case. She will oversee the entire investigation, gather evidence, and ensure that appropriate further action is taken.

Did CBI Team Arrive in Bhopal?

According to sources, the CBI team has already arrived in Bhopal, and the formal investigation process is set to commence tomorrow. In the initial phase, the documents and evidence handed over by the local police will undergo a thorough review. With the case now in the hands of the CBI, it is expected that every aspect of the investigation will be re-examined afresh.

What did the Supreme Court say?

It is pertinent to note that the case regarding Twisha Sharma's death has now reached the Supreme Court. Taking 'suo motu' cognizance of the matter, the Court held a hearing on Monday. The Supreme Court bench comprised Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V.M. Pancholi.

During the proceedings, the Court made several significant observations. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Court that the CBI had decided to take over the investigation of the entire case. Taking this information on record, the Supreme Court expressed its expectation that the agency would initiate the investigation with depth and impartiality, effective immediately.

The Court stated that the untimely death of a woman is a matter of extreme gravity, and it is imperative that the truth behind it comes to light. The Court further acknowledged that, based on the preliminary facts and the allegations leveled, the possibility of a criminal conspiracy cannot be ruled out; therefore, an independent and transparent investigation is essential. During the hearing, the Supreme Court also clarified that it wishes to steer clear of rumors and speculation in this matter. Meanwhile, the court was apprised that, within the societal context, the situation of permanently losing a daughter is far more tragic than having a divorced daughter. Responding to this observation, the court expressed its condolences to the bereaved family, stating that the pain of losing a daughter is unbearable and that the court empathizes with the family's anguish.

The Supreme Court also expressed concern regarding irregularities that surfaced during the investigation process and issued directives to ensure a fair and impartial inquiry. The court observed that, in such sensitive cases, investigative agencies must conduct their work with the utmost responsibility and transparency.
