Jalandhar: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Lucky Oberoi was shot dead in broad daylight in Punjab's Jalandhar on Friday after unidentified attackers opened fire at him while he was leaving the Model Town gurdwara after offering prayers.

What actually happened?

According to the initial reports, around 7:30 am, two unidentified attackers on a two-wheeler opened fire at the 38-year-old leader when he was coming out after paying obeisance at the Model Town gurdwara in the city.

Jalandhar Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa said that  "Oberoi was rushed to a local hospital in an unconscious state but later succumbed to his gunshot injuries."

“As per the CCTV footage gathered from the spot, the incident occurred around 7:30 am, soon after the victim sat in his Mahindra Thar,” CP Randhawa said.

The police official said that multiple shots were fired at the AAP leader's car, breaking the Thar’s windows and about eight bullets struck him.

Oberoi's wife had earlier contested the municipal elections on an AAP ticket but was unsuccessful.

Police official said that further details will emerge after examining CCTV footage and questioning witnesses.
