Lucknow: To make buying and selling of immovable property transparent, the Uttar Pradesh government has made it compulsory for buyers and sellers to provide a PAN card number when registering property in the state.
The new rules have been made compulsory to curb fraud and suspicious land transactions, according to officials.
According to Neha Sharma, inspector general of registration, anyone buying or selling immovable property, including land, houses or shops, must attach their PAN (Permanent Account Number) in the online registration form.
The instruction given by the government has been issued to the Assistant Inspector Generals (AIG) of Registration and Sub-Registrars on Wednesday.
According to the rules, the buyer and seller needs to attach their PAN in the form and if the system finds the application incomplete then the registrar's office will not proceed.
Earlier, if the PAN card was not available, the buyer and seller use to fill Form 60 of the Income Tax Department.
The officials said that the move will strengthen documentation checks and make it easier to trace financial links in property deals.
Property registry department is also updating the software to enable online PAN verification at the time of submission, official said..
Buyers and sellers must now carry their PAN cards or details of the PAN when submitting documents at sub-registrar offices or during online registration.
This rule to halt registration without a PAN number applies to all districts across Uttar Pradesh, and officers at registration centres have been told to follow the new instructions.
