Noida: The long-awaited moment, a subject of much discussion among millions of travelers across Delhi-NCR, is now drawing to a close. Noida International Airport has taken decisive steps toward commencing operations. From security clearances to negotiations with airlines, the process of finalizing ticket fares, and the legal ratification of land acquisition, rapid progress is being made at every level. These developments have made it abundantly clear that this Greenfield airport in Jewar is soon set to become a reality, marked by the commencement of commercial flights.
Commercial flights are set to commence from Noida International Airport from June 15. This clearly signifies that the residents of the NCR and North India are about to gain access to a new air connectivity hub. For those who have hitherto relied on airports in other cities, this comes as a piece of news offering immense relief.
Regular flight operations are scheduled to begin from this facility on June 15, 2026. This marks not merely a new beginning, but a transformative shift for the entire region. The airport—awaited for a long time—is now fully operational, promising to make travel significantly easier for the public.
Notably, the airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28. Following the inauguration, all requisite formalities were completed, and the Aerodrome Security Programme (ASP) recently received official approval. With this clearance in place, the path for the commencement of flight operations is now completely clear. The launch of this airport will not only facilitate easier travel for people but also provide a significant boost to trade and tourism in the surrounding areas. Several major airlines are also poised to commence their operations from this facility in the near future. Noida International Airport has been designed in such a manner that, right from its first phase, it will be capable of handling approximately 12 million passengers annually. Future expansion plans are in place, with projections indicating that the airport will eventually cater to over 70 million passengers per year.
From an environmental perspective, this airport is highly advanced, having been developed as a 'Net Zero Emission' Greenfield airport. It has been constructed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, involving collaboration between the government and the private sector. With the commencement of commercial flights on June 15, the landscape of Jewar and the entire surrounding region is set to undergo a radical transformation, positioning this airport as a pivotal hub for connectivity across North India.
The security plan—considered the most critical element for the operation of Noida Airport—has received final approval from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). With this clearance, the most significant hurdle standing in the way of commercial operations has been removed. The airport management is now focusing its entire attention on operational readiness to ensure that flight services can commence without any disruptions.
According to the management, ticket fares will be finalized within the next week following meetings with various airlines. The ticket booking process is expected to commence immediately thereafter. Sources suggest that the first commercial flight could take off approximately 30 days after bookings open, bringing immense relief to travelers.
All major preparations regarding infrastructure and passenger amenities within the airport premises are now nearly complete. According to a spokesperson for Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, work is currently underway—in collaboration with airlines and other partners—to finalize the operational launch date. The objective is to ensure that all systems, processes, and staff are fully prepared, thereby guaranteeing that services remain both safe and seamless right from the very beginning.
In the initial phase, major airlines such as IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express are expected to launch their services from this airport. This is anticipated to provide a significant boost to both domestic and international connectivity.
In a significant case related to the airport expansion, the Allahabad High Court has ruled in favor of the project. Upholding the validity of the land acquisition, the Court dismissed the petitions filed by the farmers. The Court noted that consent had been obtained from 73.02 percent of the affected families—exceeding the 70 percent threshold required for the project—which is in full compliance with the regulations. With this verdict, the path for the airport's expansion has now been completely cleared.
