UP To Introduce Two-Day Work From Home Policy, Yogi Govt Targets IT Firms First

New Delhi: Work-from-home culture may soon get a boost in Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given instructions to issue advisory to implement work from home two days a week in big industrial institutions, IT companies and startups. The government believes that this will reduce traffic, save fuel and also help in pollution control.

In the high-level meeting held with the officials, the Chief Minister said that in view of the changing global situation, balanced use of resources is necessary. Under this, the government is preparing to promote carpooling, public transport, metro, electric vehicles and virtual meetings.

Which companies will be more focused?

The government has directed the Industrial Development Department and IIDC to motivate big industries, IT sector and big startups to adopt hybrid work model. In companies where a large number of employees work, it will be recommended to implement the system of working from home two days a week.

What other major decisions did the government take?

CM Yogi has also given instructions to reduce the convoys of ministers and officials by 50 per cent. Also, it has been suggested to celebrate “No Vehicle Day” one day a week. Emphasis has also been laid on organizing government meetings, seminars and conferences in virtual mode as much as possible.

Are there maybe changes in office timings and schools also?

To reduce traffic pressure, the government is considering implementing office timings in different batches. There has also been talk of promoting the use of online classes and school buses in schools and colleges.

What happened after PM Modi's appeal?

These decisions are being linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal in which he stressed saving fuel, reducing unnecessary travel and better use of resources. After this, new steps are being taken at the administrative level in many states.

Apart from this, the government can also issue new guidelines regarding energy saving in government offices. Officials may be instructed to reduce unnecessary electricity usage and promote digital work systems.

It is believed that in the coming days, the UP government may plan to implement this model in big cities as well as other districts so that both traffic and pollution can be controlled.
