New Delhi: There is good news for young people seeking employment. Recruitment is set to take place once again in UP. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made an announcement regarding the recruitment of teachers and instructors. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that, in order to further strengthen the Basic Education Council's journey of revitalization, the UP government will appoint 21,508 new teachers and instructors.
Following the Chief Minister's announcement, a requisition for 11,508 new teachers has been sent to the Education Service Selection Commission in Prayagraj. These teachers will be recruited specifically for urban areas. Additionally, the Chief Minister announced the recruitment of another 10,000 instructors. These instructors will be appointed to upper primary schools. This initiative will also help improve the student-teacher ratio. The state government is undertaking these recruitments following the recruitment drive for 69,000 teachers conducted in 2018. The Chief Minister was addressing a felicitation ceremony for 24,717 part-time instructors—along with a program for the distribution of checks for their increased honorarium—organized by the Department of Basic Education at the Lok Bhawan auditorium on Sunday.
The Chief Minister noted that the appointment of part-time instructors was initiated in the year 2011-12 under the Basic Education Council, with the objective of providing education to children aged 6 to 14 years in accordance with the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act. At that time, they were paid a monthly honorarium of ₹7,000. Currently, there are 8,469 instructors serving in Art Education, 9,645 in Health and Physical Education, and 6,192 in Work Experience Education, bringing the total number of active instructors to 24,296. The Chief Minister pointed out that there had been no increase in their honorarium from 2011-12 up until 2022.
During a meeting with the Instructors' Federation in 2019, he had personally requested a proposal for a hike; however, a decision could not be reached at that time due to the election notification. In 2022, the government implemented an increase of ₹2,000, yet the government itself remained unsatisfied with this outcome. The Chief Minister stated that the government firmly believes that every instructor, *Shiksha Mitra*, and employee associated with basic education deserves to be treated with respect and receive an honorable honorarium. Acceding to long-pending demands, the government has now increased the monthly honorarium for instructors to ₹17,000. Furthermore, a cashless health insurance cover of up to ₹5 lakh is being provided to them and their families. He directed all instructors to register immediately on the portal developed by the Basic Education Council so that health cards may be distributed during a grand ceremony scheduled for next week.
Appealing to the media, the Chief Minister urged that if children are observed engaging in *Shram Daan* (voluntary labor), this should not be portrayed in a negative light. He emphasized that children should not be raised to be overly delicate or fragile; rather, it is essential to nurture them into individuals who are strong, disciplined, and self-reliant. Addressing the Basic Education Council, he asserted that teachers who instill a sense of discipline and hygiene in children should be honored—not punished—and should not be asked to provide explanations for such actions. He urged that children be empowered to such an extent that no one would dare to lay a hand on them.
