Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing attack on Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday. While inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for 143 development projects worth ₹548 crore in Hathras, Yogi stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ayodhya has already established a new global identity.
Yogi Adityanath targeted Akhilesh Yadav’s statement promising to transform Ayodhya into an "unparalleled religious city" if his party came to power.
The Chief Minister said, "I read the statement made by the Samajwadi Party president. He claims that if his government comes to power, he will turn Ayodhya into a religious city. What kind of religious city would you create in Ayodhya? You should look at your own history first."
Yogi alleged that during the Samajwadi Party's tenure, orders were issued to open fire on Ram devotees.
He stated that the magnificent form Ayodhya displays today is the result of the faith of crores of Ram devotees and the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Chief Minister also alleged that the previous SP government had stopped the celebration of Krishna Janmashtami in police stations and jails. Additionally, various restrictions were imposed on the Kanwar Yatra.
Yogi Adityanath mentioned that his government has undertaken the beautification of more than 22 temples in Hathras.
He alleged that under the previous SP government, public funds were spent on constructing boundary walls for graveyards, whereas his government utilized those same resources for the development of temples and the improvement of religious sites.
Challenging Akhilesh Yadav, the Chief Minister said that if he truly advocates for the development of religious heritage, he should openly support the development of Mathura, Vrindavan, and the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi as well.
Yogi stated that his government is developing better facilities for pilgrims in Ayodhya, Mathura, and Kashi, whereas the opposition lacks a development agenda and engages solely in the politics of appeasement.
