New Delhi: After a wait of almost six years, Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is going to start again. The first batch will leave from June 30. The Ministry of External Affairs has reached the final stage of preparations and has issued detailed guidelines for the selected pilgrims. The ministry made it clear that every passenger will be required to undergo the prescribed health test. Permission will be given to go ahead only after the medical board declares him fit. In view of the difficult terrain of the Himalayas, there will be no relaxation in safety and health rules. The Ministry of External Affairs, ITBP, Border Roads Organization and other agencies are jointly handling the yatra operations.
This year the journey will take place through two traditional routes. Lipulekh Pass of Uttarakhand and Nathu La Pass of Sikkim. Separate batches have been made for both the routes. Lipulekh route is a little shorter but steeper. The Nathu La route is by road and is considered convenient for elderly travellers. ITBP and BRO have completed necessary arrangements on both the routes.
Kailash Mansarovar is at a great height above sea level. Oxygen is low, temperature is low and weather changes suddenly. In these circumstances, heart, lung and blood pressure patients may face problems. For this reason, there will be complete medical screening of all passengers. There will be many tests including ECG, blood test, chest X-ray. The officials clearly said that the decision of the medical board will be final. No one will be exempted if found unfit.
All the selected passengers will have to come to Delhi first. Scrutiny of documents, medical test and administrative formalities will be completed here. The rules of safety, behavior and living at height will be explained in the briefing. Baggage will also be checked. Only after this will they be sent ahead with the fixed batch. Travel kits and essential medicines will be given to the passengers in Delhi itself.
The Ministry of External Affairs has said that every passenger should carry a valid passport, identity card and other important documents. Passport validity should be at least 6 months. Keep 3-4 photocopies of all documents separately. During the yatra, ITBP and local administration conduct checks at many places. These papers will be very useful in case of emergency. Keep the original and copy in separate bags.
The administration has decided to take strict action. There will be no activity outside the scheduled program. All devotees will have to walk in groups only. There is a ban on moving back and forth alone. It is mandatory to follow the instructions of ITBP and guide. There will be a ban on alcohol, smoking and loud noise. Officials say that even a small mistake on hilly roads can prove fatal. Therefore, discipline is most important.
