Apple is in the process of preparing to introduce AI-powered features in its upcoming operating system, iOS 18. Recent reports indicate that the company has resumed discussions with major tech firms to bolster its AI capabilities. While Apple is developing its own AI model, it is also engaged in negotiations with other companies for additional components.

Resuming Talks for AI Features

A report from Bloomberg reveals that Apple has reopened discussions with OpenAI regarding a chatbot/search component for its AI features. Furthermore, negotiations are underway with Google to potentially license its Gemini chatbot for integration into iOS 18. The status of these talks remains ongoing, with no final decisions made yet. Apple may opt to license AI technology from either or both companies, or it could choose an alternative approach altogether.

Apple faces competition from tech giants like Google and Microsoft, which have already made significant strides in the AI field. Despite this, Apple has remained relatively quiet about its AI initiatives. However, during a February earnings call, the company's CEO mentioned ongoing efforts and investments in artificial intelligence, promising more details later in the year. Recently, Apple introduced four new AI models capable of running on various devices, including phones and laptops.

Upcoming WWDC 2024

In related news, Apple has announced the dates for its annual World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) for 2024, scheduled from June 10 to June 14. The event serves as a platform for developers globally to explore new software features and improvements. This year, the spotlight will be on unveiling fresh artificial intelligence features expected to be integrated into Apple's forthcoming software updates.

Although the conference will primarily take place online, the keynote event on the first day will offer an in-person experience. Limited space is available for this in-person segment, and interested enthusiasts and developers can apply for attendance through the Apple Developer app or the company's official website. Additionally, participants in the Swift Student Challenge will also have the opportunity to apply for the in-person event.
