ChatGPT, a popular AI chatbot, stopped working for many users around the world today, causing frustration shared widely on social media. Downdetector, a site that tracks online service issues, reported hundreds of complaints about ChatGPT in just 20 minutes, including over 439 from India. OpenAI, the company that runs ChatGPT, hasn’t explained the issue yet. While some users say the service is fine, others are seeing network errors on both the website and app.

Past ChatGPT Outages

ChatGPT has had problems before, including:

January 23, 2025: A worldwide issue stopped users in places like Spain, Argentina, and the U.S. from accessing it for over three hours.
December 26, 2024: A glitch caused major issues for the AI service.
February 5, 2025: A global outage blocked access, with over 22,000 reports on Downdetector.
Recent Issues: In the last 24 hours, ChatGPT was down for about 10 minutes on September 3, 2025, and had other problems on September 2 and September 1, 2025.

Other AI Chatbots to Try

While ChatGPT is having issues, users can try these other AI chatbots:

Google Gemini: Great for creating text content quickly.
Microsoft Copilot: Similar to ChatGPT’s premium version, with image creation features.
YouChat: Gives up-to-date and useful answers with a strong search engine.
Jasper Chat: Perfect for people creating content, with tools to help with SEO.
Perplexity AI: Good for deep research and schoolwork, with accurate references.

Why This Matters

The outage is causing frustration for many users who rely on ChatGPT for work, study, or other tasks. Until OpenAI fixes the issue, trying other AI chatbots might be the best option.
