‘AC Jacket’ For Traffic Cops: Built-In Fan Gives Relief From Scorching Heat

New Delhi: Amidst the scorching heat of Jharkhand, Ranchi traffic police have started a unique initiative to provide relief to its cops. Amidst the continuous heat wave and temperature reaching 44 degrees in the city, traffic policemen are now performing duty wearing “cooling jackets." A small inbuilt fan has been installed in these jackets, which continuously circulates air and helps in cooling the body. At present it has been given to some soldiers on trial basis.

Is this jacket like a mini ‘AC system’?

This jacket given to Ranchi Traffic Police is not like normal clothes. A battery-operated fan has been installed in it, which keeps circulating air inside the jacket. This provides great relief from heat and sweat. According to officials, it can also be operated from power bank and once charged, it works for about eight hours.

Is the heat increasing the problems of traffic soldiers?

In many districts of Jharkhand including Ranchi, the temperature continues to exceed 40 degrees. Standing on the road for hours in the scorching heat and handling the traffic has become a big challenge for the policemen. Many times incidents of ill health of soldiers have also come to light. Keeping this in view, the police department has started this new experiment.

Will more soldiers also get this facility?

At present five cooling jackets are being used on trial basis. Police officials say that if its result is good then this facility will be provided to more traffic jawans also. Reflective strips have also been installed in the jackets so that the soldiers are easily visible at night and safety is maintained.

Are such experiments happening in other cities of the country also?

To provide relief from the heat, such experiments have started in other cities of the country also. At some places, air cooling jackets and mobile fans are being given to the traffic police. Experts say that in view of the ever-increasing heatwave, such technology may become necessary in the future for employees working outside.

This jacket is proving to be a great relief for the traffic jawans who work for hours in the hot sun. Many soldiers say that due to this, working in the summer feels much easier than before and they also feel less tired.
