Amazon on Monday announced that it will introduce a support for passkeys, enabling customers to log into their accounts without entering the password or use the 2-factor authentication (2FA) system. According to the latest update, buyers on Amazon can now access their accounts by simply using their biometrics (face/fingerprint scan or PIN) with which they unlock their device.
Treadwell, however, stressed that ‘passwords will still be around in the foreseeable future.’
For those using the online store through web browsers, passkey functionality is already available. However, for those using the shopping app, the function will be gradually rolled out on iOS devices and on Android handsets soon.
Open Amazon in your shopping app or web browser to create a passkey. Following that, go to "Your Account," pick "Login & security," click "Set up" next to "passkeys," and then follow the on-screen directions.
Passkey is an all new, safe, convenient and alternative way of logging into apps or websites, unlike the latter, which cannot be guessed or written down somewhere. With Passkey, an individual’s physical presence is required to unlock an account.
