Instagram Gets First Logo Update In 10 Years; Internet Says New Design Looks Like 'Instagzam'

New Delhi: Instagram has changed the look of its logo for the first time in 10 years. The new design is said to be designed to give the brand a cleaner, modern look and feel, according to the Meta-owned platform. But the switch in lettering has soon turned into a meme and joke on the Internet with some users claiming "Instagram" now looks like "Instagzam"”.

What is the change?

The most noticeable difference is the font. New letters are curved and hand written. The differences are particularly evident in certain letters including "s", "g" and "r".

The unique multicoloured camera icon doesn't change, the only thing that's changed is the wordmark at the top of the app.

What did the Instagram chief say?

The update was announced by Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri. The wordmark, which he said had been “the same for 10 years,” was in need of a "new look". The new design retains some of Instagram's legacy features, but updates the typography for a more streamlined and modern message, Mosseri said.

He also provided an update on Threads and asked users to provide feedback on the new design.

Even though the wordmark has also changed, Instagram's familiar gradient logo hasn't been updated. For the moment, the most noticeable difference that users will see is the use of the new lettering in combination with the iconic symbol of the app.

The logo has been the subject of some jokes, such as "Instaguam" and another person commenting, “It's not even readable, does it even meet accessibility standards?” Booo. I might be the outspoken minority, but do not like."

The logo did the trick as it generated plenty of buzz, but some users had to comment that Instagram should take care of the other problems it is facing. One user commented on Mosseri's post, stating that "thousands of legitimate creators and businesses are losing their accounts without any explanations or real support in Instagram when getting a new look.
