GST 2.0: Home Appliances Get Cheaper, But What About Mobile and Laptop Prices?

Tech News: From today, GST 2.0 has been implemented across the country. The government has made major changes to the tax slab and abolished the rates of 12% and 28%. Now only three tax rates are left—5%, 18%, and 40%. This change will directly affect the pockets of the customers. While home appliances like AC, washing machine and big-screen TVs have become cheap, there will be no change in the prices of mobiles and laptops.

Price drop on ACs and washing machines

New tax rates will see relief in home appliance prices.

• Air conditioner and dishwasher prices can now be reduced from Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,500.
• The refrigerator and washing machine will reduce from 8% to 9%.
• The prices of TVs 32 inches or larger will also decrease from before.
• Experts believe that customers will see the benefit of this change in the coming few weeks.

No change in the prices of mobiles & laptops

However, those who buy mobiles and laptops have not received any relief this time.

• These products already have 18% GST in force.
• Mobile and laptop manufacturers are taking advantage of the PLI Scheme (Production Linked Incentive).
• Due to import duty adjustment, the government has kept them in the 18% tax slab.

The government believes that reducing GST on these products can cause loss to revenue, so their tax rates have not been changed at the moment.

Big e-commerce Sale starting tomorrow

Tomorrow, i.e., from 23 September, sales are starting at big e-commerce companies like Amazon and Flipkart.

• The 'Great Indian Festival Sale' will begin on Amazon.
• 'Big Billion Days Sale' will be launched on Flipkart.

During this time, customers will be able to take advantage of huge discounts not only on mobile phones and laptops but also on many other electronic products. Apart from this, special cell offers will also be seen on other online platforms.

With the implementation of GST 2.0, customers who buy home appliances will get direct relief. At the same time, mobile and laptop prices will remain the same at the moment. But through the e-commerce cell starting tomorrow, people can buy these products at a very low price. This change has brought great news for customers in the upcoming festive season.
