Motorola Edge 70 Pro+ Review: A Slim Premium Contender With A 50MP Periscope Camera At Rs 47,999

New Delhi: Smartphones in India are getting pricier. Phones that used to cost Rs 40,000 are now creeping towards Rs 50,000. Motorola has tried to justify that price jump with the Edge 70 Pro+. At Rs 47,999 it adds two things the standard model does not have — 15W wireless charging and a dedicated 50MP periscope telephoto camera. We put it through its paces to see if it delivers.

How Does it look and feel?

The Edge 70 Pro+ is strikingly slim. At 7.19mm thickness and 190 grams it feels light in the hand without feeling cheap. The satin finish on the back, the metallic camera module and the curved display all give it a premium feel. It comes in three Pantone colours — Chicory Coffee, Stormy Sea and Zinfandel. We reviewed the Stormy Sea variant which has a textured back that sits comfortably in the palm.

One thing to note that the curved display and slim metal sides feel a little delicate. If you tend to drop your phone get a case. On the durability front though Motorola has given it IP68 and IP69 ratings so water and dust are not a worry.

How are the buttons and ergonomics?

Clean and well placed. The power and volume buttons are easy to reach with your thumb even on a 6.8-inch display. One-handed use is comfortable. That is not something every big-screen phone can claim.

What are the key Specs?

The display is a 6.8-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel running at 144Hz with HDR10+ support and up to 5200 nits brightness. The processor is a MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Extreme built on a 4nm process paired with 12GB LPDDR5x RAM. The camera setup is a triple 50MP system, main Sony LYT-710 sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a periscope telephoto with 3x optical and up to 50x digital zoom, and a 112-degree ultrawide. The front camera is also 50MP. Battery is 6,500mAh with 90W wired charging and 15W wireless. Software is HelloUI based on Android 16.

How is the performance and gaming?

Smooth across the board. Multitasking, app switching and daily use all feel fluid. The Dimensity 8500 Extreme is not going to beat flagship Snapdragon chips in benchmarks but it handles everything you throw at it in real life without complaint. The big story here is thermals. Motorola has packed in a 4,600 sq mm vapour chamber for cooling. Light games run without a hitch and heavier titles like BGMI and Asphalt Legends run well too. The phone does get a little warm during extended gaming but it never lagged or froze in our experience.

How are the cameras?

The periscope telephoto is the real upgrade here and it earns its place. Up to about 5x zoom shots are sharp and usable. Beyond that quality starts dropping off as it does on most phones. The main 50MP Sony sensor does a solid job in daylight — good colours, natural skin tones and decent dynamic range. Under artificial light skin can look a little shiny but that is a minor gripe. The 112-degree ultrawide is impressive and holds detail well without the usual edge warping. Low light shots are brighter than expected. The 50MP selfie camera handles portraits well even in low light.

How is the battery life?

This is where the phone is slightly underwhelming. The 6,500mAh battery gives around 12 hours of screen-on time which is decent but not exceptional for a battery that size. The saving grace is the 90W wired charging. It hits 50 percent in 30 minutes and a full charge takes around 70 minutes. The 15W wireless charging is a useful bonus that the standard model does not offer.

Should you buy it?

At Rs 47,999 the Edge 70 Pro+ makes a solid case for itself. It looks great, performs well, has a versatile camera system headlined by a proper periscope zoom lens and charges fast. The battery life could have been better for this price but everything else is well sorted. If you split your time between content consumption, gaming and photography this phone covers all three without asking you to compromise much.
