New Delhi: Popular payment platform PhonePe recently launched a new feature for its users in India. Users can now make their UPI payments using biometric authentication. This means that there's no longer the need to enter a UPI PIN every time for small transactions. Simply use your fingerprint or Face ID, and the payment will be processed instantly. This change makes digital payments even faster, safer, and more user-friendly.

How to Make Biometric Payments?

With this new PhonePe feature, users can link their bank accounts to the app for biometric authentication. Initially, you'll need to set up both the UPI PIN and biometrics once. After that, fingerprint or Face ID can be used in place of the PIN for payments up to ₹5,000. This process is not only faster but also safer, as device-level biometric security keeps your account secure.

How to Set Up?

Setting up biometric payments in PhonePe is very easy. First, open the app, go to Profile and select the Manage Payments option. Then, tap Biometric Pay and enable biometric authentication for your bank account. Initially, you'll need to use both a PIN and biometrics, but after that, only biometric authentication will suffice for small transactions.

Why is the new feature special?

The new feature offers a one-touch payment experience. Now, users can easily make payments even in a crowded place or in a hurry. Furthermore, this change comes with new guidelines from the RBI and NPCI, which officially recognize biometric authentication on the UPI platform. This has not only made payments faster, but also improved security and user experience.

This feature has been rolled out first for Android users, while it will be made available to iOS users in phases. In the future, this feature may also be seen in other UPI-based apps, as NPCI has made it available for all UPI apps. Soon, users will no longer need to enter a PIN to make UPI payments, making the process easier than ever.
