New Delhi: Planning to buy an electric car? Then hold on, because the Tata Punch EV facelift is set to launch tomorrow (February 20). Tata Motors is updating its smallest electric SUV with a new look, more features, and possibly improved range. It will be positioned below the Tata Nexon EV and Tata Curv EV in the company's lineup. If you're considering buying it, here are 5 important things to know.

What about the exterior look?

The Punch EV facelift doesn't feature major changes, but it does feature smart updates. It features a redesigned front bumper, a larger air dam, a larger headlamp cluster (with black surrounds), and a textured faux silver skid plate. While the connected LED DRLs have been removed, the slim DRLs and front charging flap remain. The side profile will remain largely the same, with 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and C-pillar-mounted door handles. The rear design hasn't been fully revealed, but it's expected to feature connected taillights similar to the ICE Punch.

Want a sneak peek of the interior?

The cabin will see subtle but significant changes, including new upholstery and a cabin theme. It features improved seat comfort (extended thigh support), a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen (replacing the existing unit), and a 10.25-inch digital driver display. The dual-spoke illuminated steering wheel and rotary gear selector remain unchanged.

What are the features and safety?

The Tata Punch EV is already feature-loaded, and the facelift could add some new features. It will feature features like a powered driver's seat, an upgraded sound system, and ADAS (likely). Pre-installed features include a voice-enabled sunroof, ventilated front seats, a wireless charger, a 360-degree camera, six airbags, and ESC and hill hold assist.

Will the battery offer better mileage?

The Punch EV facelift is expected to retain the existing battery pack options. However, Tata may upgrade the powertrain to a more efficient one. According to some reports, the company may also introduce a 40 kWh battery pack, which could be borrowed from the Nexon EV. If this happens, the range could be significantly improved.

What aout the price and competition?

The updated Punch EV is expected to be priced between ₹10 lakh and ₹15 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete directly with the Citroen eC3, MG Windsor EV, and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. It could also be an alternative to larger EVs like the Nexon EV.
