Renowned YouTuber Mithilesh Backpacker recently recounted an unsettling experience involving his Russian wife, Lisa, during their visit to Rajasthan. While exploring Udaipur with their two-year-old son, the family encountered an instance of public harassment that left them shaken.

Mithilesh was filming a video featuring his wife when a man passed a lewd comment, saying “6,000 INR.” Alarmed, Mithilesh immediately confronted the individual, demanding clarification about the remark. The comment referenced a derogatory phrase popularized by certain comedians in India, often used in inappropriate contexts to demean women, especially foreign tourists.

Mithilesh's viral reaction

Visibly angered, Mithilesh confronted the man, saying, “6,000 INR kisey bol rahe ho? Meri wife Russian hai, to tum aise baddameezi karoge?” (Who are you referring to with this comment? Just because my wife is Russian, you’ll misbehave?). He promptly sought assistance from security personnel and made it clear he would not tolerate such behavior.

The incident, which occurred near Udaipur's City Palace, was captured in a YouTube video that quickly went viral. Mithilesh revealed that this was not an isolated remark, as the man and his companions had been following and making inappropriate comments earlier.

Raising concerns about women’s safety

Reflecting on the incident, Mithilesh expressed his disappointment with certain societal attitudes and questioned the state of women’s safety in India. “I was furious. How can people behave like this, especially in front of families? It was shocking and shameful,” he said. He added that when he approached security, they discouraged him from involving the police.

This is not the first instance of harassment faced by foreign tourists in India. In December 2018, a Belgian tourist in Delhi was misled and harassed by locals. Similarly, in Jaipur, a foreign woman reported an auto driver for inappropriate behavior.
