Lucknow: A 50-year-old woman who was declared brain-dead by doctors in Uttar Pradesh came to life again after the ambulance carrying her hit a pothole on the way to home. The family who were mourning suddenly started crying with happy tears.  

Where did the incident took place?

The incident happened on the Bareilly-Haridwar National Highway, where a pothole is being credited for the life of  the woman.

The 50-year-old woman, who is identified as Vineeta Shukla, who was declared brain-dead by doctors in Uttar Pradesh last month after suddenly fainting while managing work at her home on February 22.

The journey which began for her last rites turned into a joyful moment.

How was the journey from sorrow to joy?

Vineeta Shukla, who is from Pilibhit district, was discharged from a hospital in Bareilly with doctors declaring that there is almost no chance of survival, according to The Times of India reports.

According to the reports, the doctors had informed the family of the woman that she was not responding and her condition was extremely critical. 

Did a pothole really become a savior?

Vineeta's husband, Kuldeep Kumar Shukla, on February 24 decided to bring her home in an ambulance after losing hope for recovery, according to the TOI reports.

"I told my family to prepare for her last rites. She was not breathing, there was only a sinking heartbeat. As the ambulance reached Hafizganj, it struck a large pothole and the vehicle moved violently," her husband was quoted by TOI as saying.

The sudden impact after the ambulance hit the pothole emerged as the life saving moment for Vineeta. Due to the sudden jerk by the pothole, the woman again started breathing and revived back to life. 

Vineeta's husband said that he quickly called and asked his family to stop the funeral preparations. Later Kuldeep rushed Vineeta to the Neurocity Hospital in Pilibhit and she was back home a day later, a feat that he describes as “conquering death”. 

Kuldeep further said that Vineeta "is now not just awake, but talking to us".

What had happened to Vineeta?

According to TOI, Vineeta, who was employed at judicial courts in Pilbhit, collapsed while doing her household chores last month on February 22. Later, she was referred to a medical facility in Bareilly for treatment, and was declared ‘brain-dead’ by doctors.

According to the reports, she indicated “complete unresponsiveness” and had no brainstem reflexes when she was assessed at the Bareilly-based hospital.
