Pakistan sends delegation to Kabul for talks with Afghan Taliban: Reports (X)

Islamabad: After 13 days of Pakistan-Afghanistan war, Pakistan on Tuesday has sent a three-member delegation led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman Khalil, Maulana Abdullah Shah Mazhar and Maulana Sajid Usman, to Kabul for discussions with the Afghan Taliban amid ongoing border tensions, according to reports.

What is the reason of talks?

The visit aims to explore ways to ease tensions between Kabul and Islamabad. But till now neither Pakistan nor the Taliban administration has officially confirmed the visit.

What did Pakistan delegation propose during visit?

According to reports, this three-member delegation held talks with officials of the Afghan Taliban government in Kabul at 4 pm on Tuesday and presented a peace proposal from Pakistan.

What are Taliban government conditions for ceasefire?

In the 13-day war, Pakistan has sought help from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Turkey several times to mediate a ceasefire with Afghanistan through official talks. However, in talks with ministers from these countries, the Taliban government of Afghanistan has clearly stated that there will be no ceasefire and peace with Pakistan until Pakistan promises in writing not to attack Afghanistan again.

As tensions rise and Pakistan expands airstrikes in several Afghan cities, senior Taliban officials, including Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, have called for dialogue.

The United Nations has stated the attacks had killed 185 civilians as of March 6, and more than half of the victims were women and children.
